ETNA — The fate of one of Hanover’s highest-assessed properties has been resolved.
The owner of 5 Gates Road in Etna, the unfinished vacant mansion previously owned by former Claremont Ford chief Arrien Schiltkamp, has now paid the town of Hanover $486,000 in back taxes and other costs, according to Hanover Town Manager Julia Griffin.
That amount includes about $232,000 in back taxes; nearly $17,000 for taxes due as of Dec.
1, 2018; $222,000 in penalties, and almost $15,000 in fees and charges to reimburse the town for plowing, winterizing the utilities and plumbing repairs, according to Griffin.
The town in September began moving forward with a tax sale of the 14-acre estate after the owners, who acquired it in 2017 at a bank auction after Schiltkamp defaulted on the mortgage held by Mascoma Bank.
The owner of the property initially registered it under the name Gates Roads NH Centaur Holdings LLC of Melville, N.Y.
But in January, Centaur Holdings conveyed the deed of the prope
